While at Market Night

Recently, I and some of the Natures’ Heritage staff were at Market Night displaying Watkins products.  It was alot of fun as it always is.  It was amazing the number of people who came up and reminisced about the ”Watkins Man” they remembered from their youth.  Several thought Watkins had gone the way of many ”old” companies, and were extremely glad they were still around and represented by us now “21st Century Watkins people”.  They were intrigued about all the new products along with the old favorite standbys.  Many others said they only thought Watkins was available at their local fairs once a year.   We ran out of catalogs and sold almost all of the products we had brought along!

A favorite Watkins product that night seemed to be the Menthol Lavender Drops, first introduced by Watkins in 1934.  This product helps with clearing your head and lets you breathe easier.  In the “old” days it was known as the “Vest pocket doctor”.  100% natural!  People who suffer with asthma and allergies particularly like this product and Market Night proved that for sure.   All our supplies of Menthol Lavender Drops sold out immediately.

So, if you’re looking for a 100% natural product to help with allergy or asthma relief you might want to join the many others who have used this product since 1934!  Be sure and let us know if you found the product beneficial!

Have a great Natures’ Heritage Day!

Off and Running

Well, the New Year 2012 is off and running.   Amazing we are already eleven days into in it.  While driving to a meeting this morning and seeing all the green in the fields I was struck by the mild winter we seem to be having everywhere.  Recently I read that the snow cover in the country is only 16% nationwide, but don’t tell Cordova, Alaska that as they just topped 200 inches of snow so far this winter and requested more snow shovels to handle the massive amount of snow!  I feel like sending a case of  Watkins warming balm to soothe all those aching muscles!

Watkins orders are coming in at a fast clip in the New year including Watkins’ new natural baby line which definitely deserves a look by new parents and grandparents, especially those that remember the Watkins name and their quality line of products.  Check it out at www.watkinsonline.com/martinez1

Have a great week, stay warm and take time to enjoy some remaining Watkins pumpkin butter or Chai latte…:)  I have a new pumpkin butter meatloaf recipe I’ll share in a couple days–stay tuned!

A Wonderful Weekend

I and our Natures’ Heritage staff spent last weekend at a festival supporting the reintroduction on an endangered plant species in our local mountains.  It was a great experience with many people coming from all around the country to support this worthy cause.  Many stopped by our Watkins table and relayed many, many stories of the “Watkins” man coming to visit their homes, ranches and farms in earlier times to us.  It was very evident that the “Watkins” man/men had visited all over the country as well, from Maine to California, Pennsylvania to Arizona and all places in between, both urban and rural.

Upon seeing our Watkins banner, people immediately would smile, often say “Watkins”, and be seemingly transported back in time to some positive memories.  Many shared stories with each other right in front of us and our exhibit area about ”their” Watkins man and how these salesmen always carried vanilla, cinnamon and pepper, petro-carbo “cow” salve and the wonderful array of Watkins products, along oftentimes with items for children like sparklers or candy pops, etc to share while mom and dad, aunts and uncles looked over the products.

Several of the people visiting the festival had children and grandchildren in tow and we witnessed a great inter-generational experience as they shared their stories.  Upon hearing about the great properties of the Watkins heritage medicinals expressed by their parents and grandparents many of the younger ones wanted to know more about Watkins and if  the Watkins products were still available while also inquiring about the many new natural products available to try out and share.

Many people visiting the festival thought Watkins had disappeared from the scene like so many other companies over the decades and were very pleasantly surprised to find Watkins products and independent Watkins associates still there, the company now approaching 144 years old.  Catalogs flew off our table as did most of the Watkins products we had brought to the festival, and we completely ran out of samples.  We took additional orders and we’ve been working the last 2 days on orders, replenishing products and catching up on new mailing list entries for our monthly newsletter.

It made us all very proud and happy to be associated with this great American company and its long standing heritage which now spans three centuries.  Staff and I are still talking about this great experience and all those smiles on the peoples’ faces…:)

Summer Sun

Ouch!  Everyone  konws the painfulness of a sunburn.  Perhaps you enjoyed a little too much fun in the sun over the 4th of July Holiday or out waterskiing, hiking or other weekend warrior events.  Not hard to do with all the activities of summer.  Exposure like that can cause your skin to burn and dry out from harmful UV rays of the sun.  Watkins After Sun Gel is great to recuperate by with moisturizing aloe vera and pain relieving lidocaine in a 98.5% all natural lotion.  Just what the experts recommend to get your skin back on track.

And before your next outing try Watkins SPF 30 Sunscreen, specificially formulated to naturally protect against UV A, B and C rays.  Watkins Sunscreen is PABA free, with shea butter essential ingredients and FDA approved titanium dioxide which works to help scatter harmful UV A and B rays.  With great ingredients like that we’ve got you covered!

Here are some tips from Natures’ Heritage staff to help you avoid painful sunburns this summer–

1. Try to avoid the sun between 10 in the morning and 4 in the afternoon when the sun’s rays are the strongest. If you have to be out during this time, stay in shade as much as possible and try and limit your time in the sun.

2. Stay covered as much as possible.  Wear clothes that cover your legs and arms. Wear a broad-brimmed hat.  Sun visors and baseball caps are good, but a wide brimmed hat is better for providing protection.

3. Use sunscreen often, as in apply every 2 hours, whether the sun is out or not.  The sun’s rays can even penetrate cloud cover and hazy conditions resulting in a sunburn also.   Learn how to apply sunscreen correctly and replenish often.  Often people apply sunscreen just before going out when it should have been applied 30 minutes prior to departure  for best results.  Use a sunscreen rated SPF 30 or higher for maximum effect and one that provides protection from all three types of UV rays–A, B and C!

4. Wear sunglasses. The skin around your eyes is extremely delicate. You can prevent sunburn around this area by wearing sunglasses everytime you go out or leave your place in the shade.  Many experts recommend that you use sunglasses which block 99 to 100 percent of UV sunlight and have wraparound features to avoid sunlight entering from different angles around your eyes.

So enjoy your time in the sun this summer, but take care not to burn–
