An Old Fashioned Treat for Apple and Cinnamon Fans

Recently at Market Night we’ve shown customers about the wonderful combination of Watkins award winning Cinnamon and freshly sliced crisp apples.  Many had tried Watkins cinnamon on warm oatmeal and in baked apple pies but not on a cold, crisp sliced apple version.

This was a favorite childhood treat after school and on hot summer days which we still enjoy often at Natures’ Heritage on especially tasteful Fuji or Gala apples!  The combination makes for a fast pick me up and who couldn’t do more with the many health benefits of cinnamon and apples as reported in many journals and magazines over the last several years.

So, if you haven’t tried this healthy combination think about trying it over the hot summer months…we think you’ll enjoy it.

Have a great Natures’ Heritage Week—

Cherry Blossom Time

Did you know it is the Centennial of the Cherry Blossom Trees in Washington D.C.?   The trees were orignally a gift of friendship from Japan in 1912 and have endured many trials and tribulations over their 100 years.   Many years ago I had the pleasure of being on the Mall in April when the trees were in full bloom, and remember it as a most fragrant experience.   If you ever get a chance don’t miss this annual event.

The United States Postal Service commissioned an artist, Paul Rogers from Pasadena, California to design the beautiful stamp above for the Centennial and many activities are in full swing right now as the blossoms tend to drop by the end of April each year.

What better way to celebrate the Cherry Blossom Centennial than with a cherry pie, cookies or cherry crumble made with Watkins Cherry extract!   Now available in the convenient 8 oz. size.

For over 100 years Watkins Cherry extract has been a standard in kitchens everywhere.  One that fits in with many of today’s high-flavor and low-fat cooking palates.   Give it a try and savor the best cherry recipes around!   Now you know the secret to those fabulous cherry pies grandma made!

Have a great Natures’ Heritage week!

Groundhog Day and the Super Bowl

Well, Punxsutawney Phil is back in his winter habitat after his proclamation of six more weeks of  Winter earlier this week and now we head for SuperBowl XLVI (Superbowl 46) Sunday.  With all the predictions going around on Phil Thursday and the Patriots and Giants for this weekend,  anything is indeed possible.

A good way to relax through the game is with the beverage of your choice and some appetizers with family and friends.  Here is an old time Natures’ Heritage favorite recipe for chips and dip–

Party Time Chips

1 Tbsp butter
1/4 Cup Watkins grapeseed oil or olive oil of your choice
4 cloves garlic
3 loaves pita bread

 Preheat oven to 300 Fahrenheit.

Melt butter in small skillet, then add grapeseed oil or olive oil and garlic and sauté over low heat for about 5 minutes.

Split pita loaves in half and separate the top & bottom halves. With inside of the pita side down, place pita slices in the butter/oil mix for a few seconds each, then placing them on a cookie sheet, oiled side up.

Bake about 8-10 minutes, then place under broiler until golden brown. Remove and cut each piece into 3 smaller pieces  and serve with one of the great JR Watkins easy to make dips.  Makes about 3 dozen appetizers.  Enjoy!

We’ll be back for Monday morning quarterbacking on the Super Bowl!

Extra! Extra! Read All About It!!

Hi everyone,

I really need to share this information–

Natures’ Heritage staff discovered a new use for JR Watkins Hand and Body Lotions—as shaving cream when dealing with super sensitive facial hair.    The guys swear by it for a really close shave and do they ever smell great as there are four different fragrances to try out–Lemon, Mango, Lavender and Aloe Vera!  And such smooth skin—amazing!

So, if this is a problem for you as well, or you have dry skin made drier by the rapidly approaching winter months, you might want to give these lotions a try.

Have a great Natures’ Heritage Day out there!

A Great Way to end National Small Business Week

Hi Everyone!

Natures’ Heritage staff participated in a 3 day Country Festival event over the weekend in a small rural town introducing and reintroducing the Watkins product line to small town Americana.  What a great way to celebrate National Small Business Week.  So many people came up to us and related wonderful stories and memories of the “Watkins” man who used to come out to their homes, farms and ranches.  Everyone had their favorite story to tell about Watkins vanilla, cinnamon or pepper it seemed.  What a great legacy we at Natures’ Heritage have to build and carry on as Independent Watkins representatives.

Some thought Watkins was no longer around and were happy to see us and Watkins alive and thriving.  Catalogs and samples flew off our table and it was just great to talk to so many people about Watkins and the “Naturals” gourmet spice, extract, personal and home care products.

By all accounts the economy is alive and well for entrepreneurship with Watkins and other small business endeavors.  One of the vendors near us has a small home based enterprise–spiced cookies, not too unusual you think, until you realize they are for HORSES!  Cinnamon and ginger cookies for your favorite 4 footed equine.  I thought of the winner of the Preakness, Shackelford, and Animal Kingdom, of Kentucky Derby fame and if cookies such as these might have given them an edge.

Here’s to another great week for entrpreneurs everywhere–we’re off to soak our feet in Watkins Peppermint Foot Care and then lavender scented Bath Soak!
