Labor Day! It does not seem possible that we are celebrating Labor Day tomorrow and enjoying the Labor Day weekend already. My grandmother used to say that time passes faster as you get older and I think I’m really beginning to believe that!
Along with the BBQs and festivities, Natures’ Heritage participated in a little mini craft fair yesterday. It was fun hearing again all the “Watkins Man” and product stories, and watch the reaction to people as they rediscovered an old family friend—Watkins! Many thought Watkins had disappeared from the scene and were pleasantly surprised to see our display and products, something every company looks forward to.
We filled up quite a few bags of Watkins products and catalogs to take home…:), and had a fun time giving out Watkins cinnamon and pepper samples to young children in tow with their parents and grandparents, inviting them to search on the Internet or at the library the next chance they got to find out where these spices and vanilla came from originally–as an enticement to investigate the “Spice” and “Silk” Road histories of long ago. Yet another great way to “use” Watkins samples for you Homeschoolers!
Many had not heard of these things, called “Spices” and “Roads”, so the adventure should be fun for them as they read about pirates, camels, long treks in the wildnerness by spice merchants, and many more things…perhaps we’ll get a future chef out of such curiosity or at least the beginnings of a nice report for school later in the school year.
The kids left all excited to get started on their suggested project. On the way back we stopped at a local library book sale and filled up on what else—books, DVDs and recipe books! While there we also noticed one of the kids we gave the Watkins samples to earlier busy at the library computer checking out cinnamon! Now that’s just too cool…
Have a great Labor Day and remember not to labor too much–
Sherry and Natures’ Heritage staff
