March–The Month of National Holidays

As we approach the last week of March and National Women’s History Month, there are also many other “National Month” activities to celebrate.  At least 5 themes have to do with food products and/or nutrition, baking or cooking.  I think National Flour Month might be the one of the most interesting.

National Start a Business Month

National Kidney Month

 National Nutrition Month

National Red Cross Month

National Peanut Month

National Noodle Month

National Flour Month

National Caffeine Awareness Month

Wow, so many activities, so little time!  And today, March 26th, is also National Waffle Day!  Natures’ Heritage staff are consummate waffle makers and eaters–their favorite waffles being blueberry inspired.    For those who would like to know how waffles got started on this side of the pond–history shows it probably goes to Thomas Jefferson.  He is credited with bringing waffles to America and introducing them to the White House from France.

Looking over the list again, Watkins has quality products for almost all of the National themes–spices, extracts,  gourmet ingredients for creating great noodle, peanut and flour based recipes, nutrition enriching supplements and tonics, pain relieving balms, even classic vanilla cookbooks for honoring Women’s History Month.

And of course, the Watkins Business Opportunity is available to you anytime if you’re thinking of starting your own business and living the American Dream!  What better time to start!  March is truly a packed month for celebrating our Nations’ and Mother Natures’ heritage–

Have a fun filled week–experimenting with new recipes and activities–

RIP Elizabeth Taylor

I was thinking about Elizabeth Taylor over the last day or so since she passed away and all the great films she was along with the two Oscars she received.   Irregardless of her personal turmoils you have to agree they just don’t make ‘em like that any more.  Mickey Rooney summed up her legacy nicely remembering her as “a great lady, with us for over 65 years starting at age 9 as a child actor”.

Elizabeth Taylor had over 50 film credits, and was a business woman extraordinaire…many didn’t even what “White Diamonds” were until Liz Taylor put them on the map with her perfume campaign many years ago.

She knew how to promote and market her products very effectively and her signature items will be with us for a very long time I think.  Maybe not as long as Watkins’ 143 year run has been but a long time nevertheless.  Speaking of Watkins there are several new products coming out for your enjoyment this Spring.  Stay tuned for updates!

And think about watching “Butterfield 8″ or “National Velvet” over a cup of coffe, cappuchino or Watkins Chai Latte for a trip down memory lane–

Happy St. Patrick’s Day—

Happy St. Patrick’s Day and of course many of you are wearing green in honor of this special day.  And making corned beef and cabbage, the Irish dish actually more celebrated in the United States than Ireland, for dinner or supper.  Corned beef would have been a delicacy in the old days in Ireland, mostly reserved for Kings and nobility,  and that’s no blarnery!  However, it is popular in America and there is a traditional recipe listed below for it–enjoy.

A Traditional Corned Beef and Cabbage Recipe Ingredients

 5  Pounds corned beef brisket

 2  Cloves of fresh garlic

 1  medium onion, quartered

2  Whole cloves

 10  Whole black peppercorns

½  Teaspoon Watkins mustard seed

2  Bay leaves

 1  Large head of cabbage

Place the corned beef brisket in a large heavy pan and cover with cold water. Add garlic, onion, cloves, peppercorns, mustard seeds and bay leaves. Bring all ingredients to a boil, reduce the heat and simmer for a few minute, discarding the film that forms and making sure the brisket is still covered with water. Cover the pan and continue to simmer for 3 to 4 hours, until the brisket is very tender. Remove the bay leaves and discard. Add the cabbage and continue until cabbage is tender, about 20 minutes. Slice corned beef and serve with cabbage.  Enjoy!

A common phrase heard on St. Patrick’s Day is “Erin go braugh” which is a phonetic version of Éirinn go brách which in Gaelic means “Ireland Forever.”  It was an Irish blessing used to express allegiance to Ireland in the olden days.

And with that I think we will investigate some Irish Oatmeal, more popularly known as steel cut oats, and Irish coffee recipes–complete with a dollop of whipped cream and those little green cookies that look like shamrocks–to celebrate the day by.

Keep looking for those 4 leaf clovers!

Celebrating Women’s History Month

March is National Women’s History Month–an exciting time to reflect on and celebrate women and their accomplishments throughout history.  How did this National event come about?

In 1981, Congress passed a resolution recognizing Women’s History Week which was widely celebrated at the school and local level in many communities with programs about the role of women in history, politics, etc from all walks of life.  From such beginnings and local Women’s History Week projects, efforts grew to have the US Congress declare a National Women’s History Month.

It took until 1987 and beyond but eventually Congress expanded the focus to a whole month.   In 2001,  the first Joint US Congressional Resolution proclaiming a “Women’s History Month” was passed to be celebrated in March of each year.  Over the last decade tremendous interest has grown in showcasing exhibits, programs and events related to the history of women on a number of levels and in a number of ways.

Congratulations to highlighting and celebrating the extraordinary achievement and heritage of  women worldwide, not just in the United States, and to all the unsung heroines–whether homemaker, corporate executive, outstanding athletes, who have many times overcome and continue to overcome significant obstacles.  2011 also celebrated the Centennial of International Women’s Day on March 8th around the world.

Exciting chapters await women in today’s society, including creating their own home based business opportunities.  Currently, this is one of the fastest growing areas of economic growth in the small business sector.   Watkins has one of the most time honored, high paying bonus features, quality products Home Based Business programs out there.   Be sure and take the time to research it if you are thinking about starting your own Home Based Business.  You won’t be disappointed in this 143 year company which has withstood the test of time, like so many women out there.

Here’s to celebrating women all throughout the month of March and the entire year and to the greatest woman of all–Mother Nature!

A Weekend of Festivals

With the warmer weather a round of festival going was in order for the weekend—starting with a wonderful wildflower festival and ending with a fantastic Greek Festival—OPA!

It was a good time to check out of the last of winter doldrums (hopefully) and embrace the balmy days and nights of almost Springtime.

Both festivals were delightful.   I added to our gourmet Olive oil collection with a bottle of cold pressed oil direct from Greece which I can’t wait to try out with red chile peppers tomorrow and numerous Greek delicacies to enjoy next week!  We even brought back some recipes which will be posted in the “Recipe Express” section of the Natures’ Heritage website next week.  Be sure and check back–

The only things that would have made the day even more perfect would have been a Watkins Chai Latte while taking in the sights and sounds of all that Greek dancing and indulging in Watkins Peppermint Foot Lotion after a long day of walking and dancing.   There’s still time to do that–off to do both!

Back Pain? Sore Muscles? Arthritic Pain?

My husband tweaked his back this past week shoveling snow in the driveway.  Lamenting and moving around slowly in the house the following day he remembered Watkins “Original Red Liniment” in the medicine chest and applied small amounts to his lower back  for two days and nights.  He received immediate relief from his back pain, slept well at night and was his old self by mid-week, ready to take up his snow shovel once again.  What better present day customer testimonial could one have for this original Watkins product which is now over 143 years old!

If you’re experiencing sore muscles from being a weekend warrior, minor arthritic pain or muscle pain induced job duties, you might want to check out this wonderful Watkins product and give it a try.  Even fibromyalgia sufferers have given testimonials about getting a measure of relief from their associated pain by using Watkins liniment.

J.R. Watkins created a business out of manufacturing and selling his original red liniment to relieve sore muschles and many generations of grandparents have sworn by its medicinal pain relieving properties over the decades.

Here’s to new found pain relief from your arthritis, fibromyalgia and sore muscles!
